Stylish New Yorkers like Kate Lanphear, Bonnie Young, Ashley Wick, and photographer-about-town Hanuk came in droves to TriBeCa’s The Classic Car Club to toast V&M’s collection of iconic photographs by Sam Haskins. The leading online source for unique vintage furniture, antiques, art, photography, jewelry, fashion and design from around the world, V&M (Vintage and Modern) launched its exclusive collection of signed prints of the late South African photographer’s work on June 12th.
Guests sipped on cocktails courtesy of Bulldog Gin whilst perusing both the classic cars and photos on display. Until his death in 2009, Haskins worked as a fashion photographer for publications such as Vogue, New York Magazine, Harper’s Bazaar, and Allure. He had gained true fame much earlier, back in the 1960s, with his ground breaking trilogy of books “Rive Girls” (1962), “Cowboy Kate” (1964), and “November Girl” (1967), which liberated nude photography from cliche and pioneered the use of narrative in a purely photo book. The collection is currently available at www.vandm.com.
