Socials, fashion types, and politicos converged at the penthouse and terrace of The Dream Downtown Hotel on Tuesday night to toast Weinstein Books’ publication of Bridget Siegel’s debut novel, “Domestic Affairs.” Siegel, a former Kerry/Edwards finance director who also worked on the campaigns of Obama/Biden and Andrew Cuomo, has penned a water-cooler worthy tale of a comely, talented campaign staffer who succumbs to an affair with the charming Southern governor turned Presidential candidate named Landon Taylor.
Sound familiar? Siegel demurred, however; sporting a black strapless Marchesa dress and Miriam Haskell jewelry, the author insisted that the characters in her provocative novel were compilations of people she knew, met, and had heard of during her campaign finance days.
Hosted by Siegel, Miriam Haskell COO Gabrielle Fialkoff, and Sant Chatwal (along with Weinstein Books), the rooftop fete drew a dynamic cross section of bold-faced types including Mary Alice Stephenson (also sparkling in pieces by Haskell); Gov. Mario Cuomo and Matilda Cuomo; producer Jane Rosenthal; Public Advocate Bill de Blasio; and PR maven Ken Sunshine. All of whom went home with a copy of the book (let the guessing games begin!) and a mock “Vote Landon Taylor” campaign button.
