2015 NYU Langone Perlmutter Cancer Center Gala

Friday, October 23, 2015

On October 21, over 450 guests gathered at the iconic Plaza Hotel to attend NYU Langone Medical Center’s annual Perlmutter Cancer Center Gala.

The special honoree of the evening was H. Leon Pachter, MD, the George David Stewart Professor of Surgery and chair of the Department of Surgery at NYU Langone.

Dr. Pachter, who specializes in minimally invasive surgical treatments for diseases of the adrenal gland, (including pancreatic cancer), was recognized for his dedication to the wellbeing of his patients, surgical research, and training of students. And, of course, for saving lives!

Patient speaker Billy Rapaport shared a heartwarming story about his experience battling Stage 4 colon cancer. “Dr. Pachter reminded me to live my life. I took his advice and took on more projects during treatment. In a way, the work that I did during that time seemed even more meaningful. And thanks to him, I’m doing as he told me and living my life each and every day.”

Overall, the event raised more than $1.6 million for patient care, research, education, and prevention. A successful evening indeed.
