On Monday May 17, the Whitney Museum of American Art hosted their 2016 Gala honoring Robert J. Hurst. The event was a night of art chatter, music and dancing.

The Whitney’s extraordinary fifth floor gallery, which overlooks the Hudson River, was filled with A-list attendees including Cindy Sherman, Nigel Barker and Chuck Close. Guests were offered cocktails and dinner and were shown Making of the Whitney, a Ron Howard-esque short film. The merriment was followed by a few good words from beloved Committee Chair, Robert J. Hurst. Seal then performed his signature smooth rock. By the end of the night, about every major name in the art world had made their way over to the Whitney. The Studio Party, presented by Louis Vuitton with music by Zen Freeman and Chelsea Leyland, ran into the wee hours of the night.

The event offered an option of an Artist Sponsor ticket. The purchase of this specific ticket allows the Whitney to extend a complimentary ticket to an artist of their choice. Gala chairs included Neil G. Bluhm, Allison and Warren Kanders and Susan and John Hess. Benefactors included The Loreen Arbus Foundation and VF Corporation. Patrons included The Estee Lauder Companies and Mariana and George Kaufman. The Studio Party Co-Chairs included Greta Gerwig and Elisabeth von Thurn und Taxis.
