A Double Decker Evening at The Plaza

The line-up of town cars at The Plaza was even longer than usual on Thursday night, when the hotel played host to not one but two celebrations. Upstairs, in the Grand Ballroom, The American Turkish Society held its sixth annual gala dinner. This year, the Society paid tribute to the joint venture of Time Warner and Dogan Holding in CNN Turk, the first television channel in Turkey co-founded with a foreign media company. The two honorees were Mr. Philip I. Kent and Ms. Arzuhan Dogan Yalcindag, for their vision at the helm of Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. and Dogan TV Holding A.S., respectively.

Christiane Amanpour and Donald Trump were the evening’s co-chairs; both have followed Turkey closely and have had a significant impact on the ties between the two countries. Mr. Trump went to Istanbul recently with his daughter Ivanka (also in attendance) to open a Trump Towers, which he – with his trademark modesty – deemed “a raging success from day one.”

Ivanka Trump then took to the podium to praise Arzuhan. “From the first time I met you, I was in awe. You have raised the bar for what us women executives have to accomplish. We also both know something about having powerful fathers.”

Also in attendance were Dr. Mehmet Oz, Sonja Morgan, Honorary Chair Mica Ertegun, American Turkish Society Chair Murat Koprulu, and benefit committee co-chair Emel Dilek, who spearheaded the gala after party at The Oak Room.

Downstairs in The Terrace Room, Bergdorf Goodman celebrated its 111th anniversary with a gala that drew – almost literally – everyone. It was one of those events where the easier question would be…who didn’t attend? We couldn’t even begin to list all of the notable designers, models, editors, and social types who “dressed extraordinary” as per the invitation, but among those AVENUEinsider spotted were: Stacey Bendet; Amy Fine Collins; Joe Zee; Catherine Malandrino; Carolina Herrera; Michael Kors; Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig; Mark Badgley and James Mischka; Eddie Borgo; Jason Wu; Michelle Smith; Glenda Bailey; Martha Stewart; Stefano Tonchi; Anna Wintour; Andrew Rosen; Lela Rose; Cynthia Rowley; Peter Som; and of course BG’s own Linda Fargo. Bronson van Wyck did the decor – which was naturally heavy on the purple – Chelsea Leyland dee-jayed, and 80s tribute band Rubix Cube gave revelers their obligatory Madonna/Whitney Houston fix.

The biggest entertainment, however, was undoubtedly the fashion. Check through the gallery to see which guests truly brought their BG-game.
