As the temperatures dipped on Madison Avenue Tuesday night, AVENUE convened the latest edition of its Salon Dinners basking in the warmth of a remarkable collection of Chagall masterpieces and the great hospitality of the Opera Gallery and its owner, global art impresario Gilles Dyan.

Guests, who included Robin Cofer and Dominic D’Alleva, Marilyn Chinitz and Piero Pozzi, Paola and Arnold Rosenshein and Cheri Kaufman and Bill Sclight were treated to a viewing of more than thirty of the Master’s works spanning earlier works from Russia all the way through to paintings from shortly before Chagall’s death in the 1980. Adding to the privilege, Mr. Dyan had arranged a private dinner on the gallery’s third floor catered by Philippe Delgrange himself of Le Bilboquet fame. Rumor had it that the celebrated chef actually prepared the delicious four course meal of crudo, wild mushroom risotto, halibut a la something or other, and delicious Tarte Tatin in his own personal apartment a few buildings down the street from the Opera Gallery. The magnificent flowers came courtesy of Mark Masone.

Also at the evening were Gregory Lahmi and Stephen Gross of the Opera Gallery, Andrew Greenberg, Nicole Salmi, Michele Gerber Klein, Jean Shafiroff, Edgar Batista, Barbara Pine, Camilla Sanchez and AVENUE’s President, Randi Schatz. Star of the dinner conversation was Natasha Schlesinger, art curator and advisor, who took questions from all assembled on the life and works of Marc Chagall and fascinated with her responses. (Did you know about Chagall’s connections to New York? And that he lived for close to a century?).
