The Fitch’s Corner Horse Trials celebrated its 25th Anniversary on July 21 and 22nd at the home and farm of Kirk Henckels and Fernanda Munn Kellogg. Tout Millbrook (as well as some Sharon, Lakeville, Salisbury, Standfordville and Pine Plains) came out, as did the sun, despite threatening skies and muggy weather, for Sunday’s Spectator Luncheon under the big tent, and cross-country and stadium jumping competition.  The day’s program also included a parade of vintage Rolls-Royces, courtesy of the Rolls-Royce Atlantic Region Concours, a parade of the Millbrook Hunt Hounds led by the AVENUE Hot 100’s Parker Gentry, and the presentation of the Fitch’s Corner awards to Hall of Famers Barbara and Donald Tober and to the local brokerage, Houlihan Lawrence.

The sprawling equestrian event, an annual benefit for the Millbook Fire Department Rescue Squad, also includes dressage and cross-country, a marketplace of products horsey and otherwise, and a Saturday night social.

Spotted wending their way from fields to market to tent and back again were throngs of the area’s finest, most in the splendid straw hats that are the day’s signature:  Carolyne Roehm, Karen and John Klopp, Hot 100 members Patricia and Michel Jean, Bruce Colley, Pam Taylor Yates, Cece Cord, and Mary Hilliard, whose photographs chronicling the last decade at Fitch’s Corner were given pride of place beneath the tent in the event’s first-ever photo exhibit.

The 2018 Fitch’s Corners Horse Trials chairs were Nancy Henze and William Hamilton.
