Aayenda at Urban Zen

Wednesday, July 15, 2015

Afghanistan’s first jewelry brand is coming to Sag Harbor’s Urban Zen for a special trunk show, August 1 and 2.

Aayenda, meaning ‘future’ in local language Dari, offers a stunning collection of artisan crafted pieces using gold, silver, beading and semi-precious stones.

The jewelry brand is owned by nonprofit Future Brilliance US, which works to provide economic stability and empowerment for Afghan artisans. Over 1200 artisans trained by Future Brilliance have hand-crafted lapis and turquoise beads, while workshops in Kabul produce the finished jewelry product.

The brand offers two lines- Aayenda Satara, which features gold-plated silver and beading, and Aayenda Balascia, which uses 22k gold, oxidized silver and semi-precious stones.

A range of Aayenda pieces will be available to purchase at the trunk show, while founder, Sophia Wire, will be in attendance to talk about the brand’s unique story.
