Alzheimer’s Association Hosts Kick-Off With An Evening Of Cocktails

On Tuesday, September 16th, the Alzheimer’s Association® hosted its official Rita Hayworth Gala Cocktail Reception in New York, to celebrate the upcoming Rita Hayworth Gala at the Waldorf Astoria in New York on October 21. Festivities were held at the Upper East Side home of Daryl and Irwin Simon, with attendees including Founder and Gala Chair Princess Yasmin Aga Khan, 2014 gala honorees Louise and Stephen Kornfeld and actress Lauren Miller Rogen. 


 This year marks the 31st anniversary of the Rita Hayworth Gala, which Princess Aga Khan started in honor of her mother, legendary actress Rita Hayworth, who lived with Alzheimer’s for many years before succumbing to the disease in 1987. To date, under Aga Khan’s leadership, more than $63 million has been raised for the Alzheimer’s Association through these galas.


Guests in attendance included Alzheimer’s Association’s President and CEO Harry Johns, Chief Strategy Officer Angela Geiger, socialite Muffie Potter Aston, journalist Felicia TaylorRoger MeltzerRobert Zimmerman and Diandra Douglas. As well as Gala Steering Committee members Nicole Sexton, Liliana Cavendish, Chele Chiavacci, Sharon Bush, Somers Farkas and Robin Meltzer with daughter Lizzie Meltzer, a Young Committee member.
