If there was ever a woman qualified to dole out life and style advice, Amanda Brooks would be the one. Her second book, Always Pack a Party Dress, is already receiving a wall of praise, chronicling her life holding down virtually every glamorous job available to a wealthy and stylish girl about town (including assistant to Patrick Demarchelier, Barney’s fashion director, art world gallerina), and eventual decision to give it all up for a quiet life in the English countryside. Okay, she didn’t give it all up. She kept the Balmain jackets.

Brooks and a posse of New York’s most stylish toasted the book’s launch last night at the J. Crew store in SoHo amid rounds of champagne, light bites, and celebratory chatterer. Notable attendees included Simon Doonan, Jenny Lyons, Amy Astley, and Derek Lam.

Brooks, as expected, wore a party dress.
