Amy Adores: Resort 2012

Friday, June 17, 2011

As the seasons fly by in what seems to be a day or two, every year I find myself fixated on the filler season; Resort. It screams to me of everything I love about warm spring breezes, and the cool, brisk autumn months, and combines them into the perfect collision of temperate weather. I’m a layering gal; I love to throw on a jacket, over my sweater, over a tank, and this season was a smorgasbord of separates to mix and match as you please. Here’s a quick list of my top 5 (and one for good luck) looks from the Resort 2012 collections.

Alexander Wang finally wowed me again, after a few seasons of ultra-blah, ultra-basics. Inspired by materials uses in speed-skating, swimming and general speediness, this collection was a colorful take on contemporary sportswear that brought Mr. Wang and I just a little bit closer.

Givenchy: Do I really need to say anything? Riccardo Tisci delivers once more with a stunning collection of floral prints and cut-outs that are screaming to be worn by the fashion elite. Cue collective drooling.

Mr. Lagerfeld went in a different direction than most of his peers this season, taking layering back to the days of pairing wide-legged pants under tight fitting dresses. Though that’s not quite my look, there were some undeniably beautiful pieces in the 75 piece Chanel collection.

The Full House twins are all grown up these days, and their sophisticated (and CFDA nominated) collection, The Row just keeps getting better with age.

Stella McCartney threw me for a loop this Resort season, as she presented what, in my humble opinion, is her best collection to date. A mix of her classic, impeccably tailored basics, and some jaw dropping colors and prints, this collection is sure to keep the Beatle-baby on the map for years to come.

Erdem Moralioglu made this fellow Canadian proud this season, with his eponymous line’s fun and fantastical Resort presentation. Deep hues and graphic prints gave the classic silhouettes a chic and exciting update.

Celine creative director Pheobe Philo was presented with the CFDA International Designer award at this years ceremony, and her Resort collection only solidifies her status. Philo has chicness pouring out of her, and this collection of separates is slathered in it.

Honorable mentions: If only there were room for everyone! This season has turned this fashion-fiend into a die-hard Resort fan. Amazing collections came from every corner of the globe. Some more favorites were Preen’s quirky sophisticate, Theysken’s Theory’s city-gal, Acne’s nerd chic, and Proenza Schouler and their fantastic textiles.

Until next season…
