An American in Paris, the new stage production of the classic Gene Kelly film, celebrated its opening night on April 12. The musical has transferred to Broadway after a successful run in Paris last year. The night started with a performance of the show, after which supporters gathered at The Pierre Hotel to toast to the musical’s success and to congratulate the cast and crew on their work.

Attendees included: stars Robert Fairchild and Leanne Cope; director-choreographer Christopher Wheeldon; Helen Mirren and her husband Taylor Hackford; Brandon Uranowitz; book writer Craig Lucas; Sam Rogers; Jennie Ford; Goldie Hawn; Gloria and Emilio Estefan; Mamie Gummer; Zachary Quinto; and producers Roy Furman, Stuart Oken, Van Kaplan and Jean-Luc Choplin.

The musical, created by Ira and George Gershwin, tells the story of an American soldier who stays in post-war Paris to become a painter, and falls in love with a French girl. It is part of a recent throwback for Broadway revivals, with many musicals from the 50s and 20s, like Gigi and On the Twentieth Century, being brought to the stage for the spring season
