This Saturday, Audrey Gruss invited 30 female friends to her Southampton estate, Fairwind, for an All White Tea celebrating the launch of her new fragrance collection, “Hope”. Inspired by her mother Hope’s love of white flowers, Hope is an “all-white floral combined with a crisp note of verdant freshness,” and Gruss’s party was no less white. Guests circled around white linen-covered tables laden with white deserts, white teas and white flowers, and enjoyed tea sandwiches made with—what else?—white bread. But all the white finery was for a good cause.

Gruss has been a leader in the fight against depression through the Hope For Depression Research Foundation (HDRF), the charity she founded in April 2006 to help raise money for depression research. Depression is the number one cause of disability around the world, with 350 million people around the world affected every year—20 million in the United States alone. One of those 20 million was Gruss’s mother, who struggled with the disease throughout her life. But despite its heavy human toll, depression research is consistently underfunded, and Gruss’s organization is always on the lookout for innovative new ways to raise money. Hope is the latest effort in this fight—100% of its net profits will be donated to the HDRF.

Hope launches on September 1 at select Saks Fifth Avenue stores and saks.com. The collection will include Eau de Parfum, an Eau de Parfum purse spray, a Hand and Body Creme, and a Scented Candle.

Guests included Kathy Hilton, Donna Acquavella, Sharon Bush, Luce ChurchillDebbie Bancroft, Ann Barish, Janna Bullock, Somers Farkas, Mai Harrison, Kim Heirston, Carol Mack and Dana Hammond-Stubgen
