President of New York University
As the 15th president of New York University, a position he has held since 2002, John Sexton has turned an already renowned American university into a global mecca of liberal education, having pioneered the expansion of a sister campus in Abu Dhabi and Shanghai. International acclaim aside, it is perhaps the largest project ever proposed in New York’s own Greenwich Village that has garnered him some controversial attention. The “Sexton Plan”, approved by City Council in March of this year, involves a nearly 20-year expansion of the university’s downtown campus, estimated to cost upwards of $4-billion. One more step towards making New York’s major institution into an international education powerhouse.
