AVENUE Magazine has announced its plans to present its inaugural AVENUE Altruism Awards at its Life Below Water Gala on Monday, November 13, 2017. Held at the United Nations, Life Below Water will honor and benefit Mission Blue, an organization dedicated to exploring and protecting the world’s oceans.

Mission Blue founder Dr. Sylvia Earle will receive the first AVENUE Altruism Award in recognition of her leadership in protecting and enhancing life below water. Fabien Cousteau, internationally renowned aquanaut, ocean conservationist, founder of The Fabien Cousteau Ocean Learning Center and the grandson of Jacques-Yves Cousteau, will present her award.

“All are committed to the ‘below the water’ cause we will spotlight in an evening designed to celebrate the best of philanthropy, and the best of New York, “ said Michael Gross, AVENUE’s Editor-in Chief.

“The ocean is the cornerstone of earth’s life support system; it shapes our climate and weather. It holds most of life on earth. 97% of earth’s water is there. It’s the blue heart of the planet—we should take care of our heart. It’s what makes life possible for us. United Nations initiative SDG14, Life Below Water, will move us closer to ensuring the healthy planet that future generations deserve to inherit.” says Laura Cassiani, Executive Director of Mission Blue.
