Daniel Lobitz of Robert A.M. Stern Architects (RAMSA) was the honoree and guest speaker at the latest of AVENUE’ Salon Dinners, a collaboration with the Victory Club, this Tuesday night. The gourmet meal took place in the living room of the model apartment for 70 Vestry Street, a stately new Tribeca condominium designed by Lobitz in collaboration with Stern and interior designer Daniel Romualdez, and developed by The Related Company.

Lobitz was introduced by AVENUE Editor-in-Chief Michael Gross, who highlighted the building’s relationship to an earlier, incredibly successful product of the RAMSA office, 15 Central Park West, subject of his 2014 best-selling book, House of Outrageous Fortune. Lobitz elaborated on the many unique aspects of the not-yet-open block-long waterfront building with spectacular views across the Hudson River, particularly its naturally-honeyed, elegant facade of French Beaumaniere limestone from a quarry on the banks of the Seine 250 kilometers south of Paris, the careful carving and detailing done to integrate the structure into the formerly industrial neighborhood, the privacy and embracing feel of its intimate drive through courtyard, its unique setbacks, carefully designed layout and huge windows.

After Lobitz’ remarks, the floor was opened to questions from the guests, one of whom, musician Ian Mellencamp, pointed out proudly that the limestone cladding of 15 CPW came from the Empire quarry of his home state of Indiana. That quarry got its name after its stone was used on the Empire State Building.

Mellencamp was there with actress Jazmin Grimaldi. They joined Howard and Lili Buffett, Peter Morris Dixon and Gemma Kim of RAMSA, Google’s Stephanie Fleischman, Paola Bacchini Rosenshin, Ethan Goldstein, Greg Surabian, Rafael Feldman, Steven Knobel, Brian Manzmanian, Arnold Rosenshein, Noel Wagner, and Avenue Media president Randi Schatz and her BFF Schatz Pack: Consuelo Costin, Lauren Day Roberts, and Nicole Noonan, and from the 70 Vestry team at Corcoran Sunshine and Related, Daniel August Cordero, Lori Ben-Ari, and Robert McCain.

Wine was provided by Vievite, and flowers by Mark Masone.
