“At Bianca Jagger’s 30th birthday party at Studio 54 the theme was white. Bianca wore a beautiful white dress by Halston. The curtain went up and out came a white horse, led by a beautiful boy, covered only in gold glitter. There was a beautiful girl riding the horse, also covered only in glitter. She hopped off and Bianca was lifted onto the horse, where she sat side-saddle. That’s when that famous photo was taken.


About 150 people were invited; Halston was the host, and Mick Jagger and Mikhail Baryshnikov disco-danced together. At midnight, the doors opened and the public came pouring in—and Studio 54 was launched as the epicenter of the international club scene.


The following year, Halston gave a birthday party for Elizabeth Taylor. The Rockettes wheeled out the cake, which was a giant portrait of Elizabeth Taylor, and she made the first cut right across her marzipan bosom.”
