Last night, Monday February 2nd, Magnolia Pictures premiered its new film “Ballet 422” at Florence Gould Hall. The documentary film, directed by Jody Lee Lipes, takes us backstage at New York City Ballet as emerging choreographer Justin Peck crafts his new work “Paz de la Jolla”, from first rehearsal to world premiere. At only 27, Justin Peck is both a soloist and the New York City Ballet’s resident choreographer and has collaborated on many of the company’s performances. To align with this month’s premiere of the film, the Ballet will mount Peck’s new spin on Aaron Copland’s “Rodeo”, the Americana ballet that launched Agnes de Mille’s career in 1942, starting on February 4th and running through May.

At the premiere, to celebrate the film were Justin Peck, Jody Lee Lipes, Indre Rockefeller, Giles Mendel, Robert Fairchild, Tiler Peck, Amy Astley, Andrew Bevan, Elena Foley, Wesley Taylor, Anna Rose Holmer, Ellen Bar, Kira Dikhtyar, Claire Von Enck, Amar Ramasar and Kiera Chaplin.
