Barneys new Co-op kicks off in style

Monday, November 14, 2011

Barneys Co-Op—always a favorite go-to spot for the latest trends and hot young designers —has relaunched on the store’s 8th floor, complete with adjoining men’s and women’s departments and an interactive cafe. Naturally, a celebration was in order. Aside from drawing the to-be-expected fashion-savvy crowd—Amanda Brooks, Simon Doonan, Timo Weiland, Richard Chai, Mark Lee, and Jeff Halmos all toasted the new space—the party provided some entertainment synergy of its own. There was Mark, the psychic; Janet, the tarot card reader; and The Bumbys—a dynamic duo that types “fair and honest appraisals of your appearance.” That may sound daunting to the casual party-goer, but their soundbites are pretty addictive. An example, courtesy of AVENUEinsider: “you buck the system in an awesome way. Anarchy rules.” Well, we hope so. The new Co-Op—which still connects to the existing women’s Co-Op area on the 7th floor—is now officially open to the public, in all of its 22,000 square foot glory. It still carries the much beloved staples like Isabel Marant, Carven, Rag & Bone, Robert Geller, and Shipley & Halmos, and will also welcome new brands like Christopher Kane by J. Brand and Thakoon Addition.  AVENUEinsider’s “fair and honest appraisal?” An innovative concept and a job well done.
