Two years ago the UN declared October 11 as International Day of the Girl (IDG) in an effort to raise awareness about gender inequality worldwide. On this day activist groups and supporters come together under a common goal. Two of those supporters are Barneys New York and The Girls’ Lounge. The Girls’ Lounge is an entity that champions, supports and inspires women.

The Lounge, in partnership with Barneys, hosted an event to celebrate IDG. Monday afternoon at Barneys on Madison Ave, IDG supporters gathered to promote confidence and equality. There were hors d’oeuvres and lots of Instagramming. There were postcards that said “Anything is possible when…” with a space for guests to finish the sentence and #GirlPossible. Some of those in attendance at this celebration, a celebration that could also be considered part of the gender inequality movement, were Rosie Rios, Megan Smith, Dyllan McGee, Payton Iheme, Shelley Zalis, Charlotte Blechman and Simon Doonan.
