Bastille Day marks the turning point of the French Revolution, or the Storming of Bastille. Whether you’re celebrating with a trip to Paris or to a French restaurant, you can still take a moment to appreciate all that the French culture has influenced ours. In honor of the holiday, AVENUE is highlighting some of our favorite French figures that have stolen our hearts.

Julia Restoin Roitfeld

The face of Tom Ford’s Black Orchid, a model for Roberto Cavalli’s H&M campaign, and an ambassador for Accessorize and Mango, Roitfeld is a stunning face of success in the fashion world. Born in Paris, she’s the daughter of Carine Roitfeld, the editor-in-chief of Vogue Paris until 2011. Julia Restoin Roitfeld was also featured on the cover of our March issue this year.

Charlie de Viel Castel

With a double major from Brown University, you could say de Veil is doing pretty well for himself. He is the founder of CVC Stones, which was inspired by a loose diamond that his French grandmother left for him. Now the jewelry line pairs diamonds with natural stones from stunning beaches. The resulting beauty is something you have to see to believe.

Jean-Georges Vongerichten

Born in Alsace, France, Vongerichten is known all around the world. Luckily, he now resides in New York City, so we can all enjoy the ravishing restaurants under his command. With thirteen restaurants in the city alone, he spreads his French cuisine for everyone to enjoy. He also has restaurants in LA, the Bahamas, Miami Beach, Brazil, London, Japan and more.

Prince Dimitri of Yugoslavia

While technically not French, HRH Prince Dimitri of Yugosalvia was born in the City of Versailles. He graduated from University of Paris and now resides in New York City. Growing up in France surrounded by jewels influenced Prince Dimitri Company, a jewelry firm. His pieces include cufflinks, rings, bracelets, earrings and necklaces.

John Demsey

You know him as the executive president at the Estée Lauder Companies Inc. and the overseer of Clinique, M.A.C., Tom Ford Beauty and other brands. But you might not have known that he lived in Paris when he was a student in the ‘70s. Now, he returns to France three or four times a year out of sheer love for the country.
