Belmond Launches Bear-y Special Train Trips

Thursday, November 30, 2017

Families who are in training for quality time are in luck, as Belmond is launching a fleet of Paddington Bear inspired locomotive trips in both the U.K. and Peru.

Held aboard the Belmond British Pullman, the Paddington Afternoon Tea adventure will depart London Victoria Station on December 2; February 16 and April 7. In Paddington’s home country of Peru, Belmond’s adventures aboard the Belmond Andean Explorer will now feature treats inspired by the bear’s story.

“Belmond is increasingly focused on celebrations that bring family together,” says Gary Franklin, the Managing Director of Belmond Trains and Cruises. “It’s important to help families slow down and enjoy their time.”

The Paddington-themed trips tie into the release of Paddington 2, which follows the adventures of Paddington Bear after he arrives at Paddington Station from Peru and eventually lives with the Brown family in Windsor Gardens.

The movie features the Belmond British Pullman, the same train that will host the Paddington Afternoon Tea trip. Paddington will greet passengers at the check-in lounge, where guests can watch the train pull up to the station. Once aboard, “Paddington will walk through the train and meet all the guests. The afternoon tea is themed to children, with cakes in the shape of suitcases and coats, and of course marmalade sandwiches,” says Franklin. Adults in the group are welcome to partake in the family menu or order more mature treats, like Champagne.

Aboard Belmond’s Belmond Hiram Bingham, the four- or seven-night excursions include stays at Belmond properties across Lima, Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley. After a day exploring the ancient Incan ruins, “children can come back to work with the chefs to make bear-themed cookies,” says Franklin. There is also the option to enjoy a Paddington movie under the stars.

November has been a busy movie month for Belmond, as the luxury travel company also offered special promotions tied to the release of Murder on the Orient Express, which takes inspiration from Belmond’s Venice Simplon-Orient-Express. The train, which has multiple destinations across Europe, will launch three new grand suites in March 2018. The collaboration with films is a part of Belmond’s The Art of Cinematography campaign with a series of short films that honor the golden age of travel and film.

“The movies have created a fun opportunity for families to come together to discover Belmond and various places throughout the world,” says Franklin. Or, it creates opportunities for guests to understand what Paddington meant when he once said, “Things are always happening to me. I’m that sort of bear.”
