Bergdorf Goodman Celebrates Launch of Silvia Furmanovich Collection

Thursday, October 6, 2016

Last night, guests gathered at BG, Bergdorf Goodman’s restaurant, to celebrate the launch of jewelry designer Silvia Furmanovich’s latest collection, Marquetry. Bergdorf Goodman began carrying her line in August of this year. Attendees of the event got to celebrate the brand’s triumphant return with champagne and hors d’oeuvres provided compliments of the luxurious department store.

The Brazilian-based designer is most noted for her jewelry, but this season she has also presented a brilliant collection of handbags as well. Her unique clutch bags are made from wood found in the Brazilian amazon and they are left undyed, so the colors are completely natural. The gemstones she also embellishes them with are very unique as well. For example, she had a bag that was made with actual moon stones.

As for her jewelry, the collection included diamonds, gold and other precious gem stones. Signature motifs of flora and fauna were used to create a one-of-a-kind collection with trompe l’oeil renderings, all crafted from precise hand cut veneers.

The collection came about after Furmanovich took a trip to Acre, Brazil’s westernmost state, where she met the skilled craftsman who specialize in marquee work. The meticulous process of marquee work involves assembling hand cut wood veneer shapes found from objects in the forest.

“Wood has been an important material in my work” said Furmanovich. “This technique lends itself very well for an endless variety of intricate and detailed motifs, which gives a lot of creative freedom. The material is also very lightweight, which makes it ideal for jewelry.”

Attendees at the event included HRH Princess of Greece Tatiana Blatnik, Nathalie de Gunzburg, Alexandre de Gunzburg, Adriana Bittencourt, Rita Bronfman, Gannon Brousseau, Helio Campos, Ricky Clifton, Lisa Cohen, Dori Cooperman, Enrico Marone Cinzano, Maria Antonia Ferraz, Adriana Friedman, Grace Fuller, Jennifer Gach, Grace Givens, Bettina Haegler, Betty Halbreich, Steven Harris, Ashlee Harrison, Charlotte Kidd, Darya Klishina, Karen Larrain, Kristen McGinnis, Chris Osvai, Eleni Petaloti, Claibourne Poindexter, Stuart Parr, Kareem Rashed, Lucien Rees Roberts, Antonio Pio Saracino, Allison Sarofim and Guilherme Siqueira.
