The March issue of AVENUE features our seriously selective list of the 39 Best Dressed Women in New York. Here is just one of the 39…keep coming back to see who else made the cut!

Julie Macklowe: The Prom Queen

Born in Aspen and raised in Arizona, hedge fund manager Julie Macklowe is putting her funds (and flair) into clothing, having just launched a company that will make seed investments in fashion businesses. Macklowe, who has an easy smile and loud laugh, likes to take risks. She caused flashbulbs to go crazy when she arrived at the 2009 Costume Institute Gala in an enormous, floor-sweeping Oscar de la Renta dress. Macklowe’s the antithesis of a wallflower, standing out wherever she goes, whether in the vintage Alexander McQueen she scored on eBay or a Jason Wu gown. And she pays for it all, too—no borrowing dresses for this belle of the ball. Macklowe’s advice to aspiring style daredevils? “Don’t wear what you’re not comfortable in since it’s ultimately reflected in how you wear it.”
