Prince William made global headlines when he announced that he was engaged to Kate Middleton. The blue Issa dress she wore at the press conference sold out at Harvey Nichols in less than 24 hours. The Prince gave Kate his mother’s engagement ring – an 18-carat oval blue sapphire surrounded by white diamonds that Prince Charles had given to Lady Diana in 1981. And now a much, much cheaper version of the ring can be yours thanks to Kenneth Jay Lane and QVC who will be hawking a “Simulated Sapphire Ring” this Saturday for $39.54. The ring ships on Dec. 20, just in time for Christmas. Our only question – how do they come up with prices like $39.54? Is the 54 cents because Lane was such a regular at Studio 54?
