Casita Maria Center for Arts & Education “Fiesta 2015”

Wednesday, October 21, 2015

A glamorous evening of dinner and dancing was held at the Plaza last Tuesday, in celebration of the past, present, and future of Casita Maria Center for Arts & Education.

Known as the “Fiesta 2015”, the annual black tie event honored Casita Maria Board member John Bernbach, renowned film director Baz Luhrmann, and philanthropists Veronique and Bob Pittman for their support of expanding the lives of children through the arts.

The evening started out with a tribute to outgoing Director, Sarah Calderon, who had served seven years at the organization. Dinner Chairman, Jacqueline Weld Drake expressed gratitude for her contributions and wished her well. Following, Calderon came up on stage clad in a dress painted by Tats Cru, a famous Bronx graffiti crew. She beamed, “The idea for a graffiti dress was inspired by our high school youth, who, as part of their ArtWorks Internship this summer, were charged with creating a dress for me for the gala.”

Among other things well dressed were the gorgeous centerpieces, decked out with custom designed iron branch candelabras intertwined in an Italian ruskus vine filled with poppy-hued flowers.

Those in attendance included gala co-chairs Aileen Mehle and Prince Dimitri of Yugoslavia, as well as guests Amy Fine Collins, Fabiola Arias, Coromoto Atencio, Stephanie Bilet, and more.
