Walk into GUAC Tacos + Tequila, newly opened in the East Village, and it’s always National Taco Day. The dark wood and inviting bar open into a back dining room with colorful décor, taking you from what would have been a dreary New York Tuesday to a veritable trip across the border.

Tuesdays are always reserved for #TacoTuesday, but October 4 is particularly special. It’s National Taco Day. To celebrate, GUAC is offering a buy two tacos, get one free promotion; as well as a complimentary taco with the purchase of a margarita.

Taco options include three appetizers—chicken tacos with cilantro and onions; steak tacos with cilantro and salsa verde; and shrimp tacos with onions, tomatillos and tartar sauce. All whet the palate for the feast to come, as the menu features tantalizing main courses. GUAC’s fresh take on such staples as fajitas and enchiladas are present. But patrons can add a bit of spice to the typical Mexican fare with such dishes as the Mole Tradicional De Puebla (chicken breast with dry chilies, chocolare, raisins and sesame seed served with Mexican rice platanos maduros); or the Camarones a La Diabla (sautéed jumbo shrimp in a spicy toasted tomato chipotle sauce served with Mexican rice and sliced avocado)

In addition to tacos, the restaurant of course features its namesake guacamole, with 11 different varieties on offer. More than just a mashed up avocado, GUAC’s specialties include exotic mango—California sweet mango with cilantro, onions and lime juice; queso fresco—tomato, cilantro and onions, topped with queso; and fried golden bacon. For the indecisive among us, there’s thankfully the option of ordering a sampler of three.

Grab one of the signature drinks—we, of course, recommend the margarita—and toast to the carefree spirit of sunny days down south.

GUAC Tacos + Tequila is located at 179 Avenue C, New York. For more information, click here.
