Last night marked the much-talked-about and much-anticipated 2011 Whitney Museum of American Art Gala held at Hudson River Park’s Pier 57. This years celebration seems particularly exciting as New Yorkers get ready for the opening of the galleries new space in the Meatpacking District. Museum director Adam Weinberg was of course in attendance and presented New Yorker art critic Calvin Tomkins with an honorar award. Marchesa designers Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig seemed to have dressed the majority of the PYT’s in attendance, as Bar Rafaeli and Michelle Monaghan stunned in the labels frothy confections and were of course seated at the designers’ table. Chapman’s hubby and CEO of the Weinstein Company, Harvey Weinstein took time to catch up with Julian Schnabel and his son (and burgeoning art aficionado) Vito, as well as artist and philanthropist Jeff Koons and mayoral hopeful Scott Stringer.
