Al Wei Wei

After 81 days of being detained in a secret location, dissident, outspoken and talented Chinese artist Al Wei Wei was released from imprisonment. Wei Wei’s zodiac sculptures (animal heads representing the Chinese “year of” astrology) near The Plaza Hotel make us always stop and snap a few iPhone photos (and we are near The Plaza a lot).

Wei Wei was arrested last April 3rd and charged with tax evasion, but The AVENUEinsider suspects his political statements and views have something to do with his sudden lock-up. Meanwhile, We Wei is still “under investigation” by the Chinese government and cannot leave Beijing.

There is much more to this story than meets the eye so stay tuned.
