Christie’s is currently holding an online auction to give art collectors an opportunity to own a piece of Hamptons history. Willem de Kooning’s paintings were inspired by his time spent in the Hamptons, reflected through his use of natural themes, colors, and light. This special online sale of Willem de Kooning: Works on Paper from the Estate of Dr. Henry Vogel features a diverse selection of the artist’s works. Starting bids range from $3,000 to $70,000, thus appealing to art collectors of all levels.

The sale opened June 5th and continues through June 19th. The online auction features 33 of the celebrated abstract expressionist’s paintings. These paintings are from the period in de Kooning’s life when he resided in East Hampton. His art changed dramatically when he moved to East Hampton from New York City, and he explored the new landscape around him through unique use of space and color. The paintings for sale have all been offered direct from the late Dr. Henry Vogel’s personal collection. Dr. Vogel was de Kooning’s close friend and psychiatrist, and the two shared a deep bond through the time that de Kooning was painting.
