Concept Korea takes Manhattan

Wednesday, September 14, 2011

In it’s fourth installment at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, the South Korean government sponsored Concept Korea fashion initiative, which aims to promote South Korean design talent to a US market, held it’s presentation at the Lincoln Center this past Friday. The five designers chosen to showcase their collections in this years “Fashion Collective” presentation were put through a rigorous evaluation process with an all-star fashion panel including our very own Peter Davis, Fern Mallis, FIT’s Valerie Steele, IMG’s Christina Neault, WWD’s David Lipke and CFDA’s Lisa Smilor, who were chosen to help in the choosing process.

The final five designers, Doho, Lie Sang Bong, Steve J & Yoni P, Song Jun Wan and Resurrection by Juyoung were an eclectic mix of aesthetics and their collections made for an eye-popping presentation – even attracting the likes of Hollywood starlet, and emerging style diva Vanessa Hudgens who took time to pose with designers after the show. This fashion initiative is a fantastic way to incorporate international designers into what can sometimes seem a rather predictable show season. The AvenueInsider can’t wait to see what South Korea has to offer next.
