Cricket’s Crush: Hamish’s Tie

Tuesday, October 26, 2010

Our December cover story on the uber-dandy Hamish Bowles of Vogue promises to be a page turner. Famed lensman Jonathon Becker photographed him for us at the Queen Sofia Spanish Institute on Park Avenue on Friday; the location of the upcoming Cristobal Balenciaga retrospective, which Mr. Bowles curated.

Our cover model showed up with garment and shopping bags choc a block with the chicest and most colorful array of custom made suits, shirts, shoes and ties – yes even one-of-a-kind ties like an amazing hand painted tie he acquired at The Savannah College of Art and Design. This was a super prep rep tie that had been strategically splattered with neon paint. I could not resist turning the tie over to reveal a Brooks Brothers label! How cool is that?

I also adored the oversized hot pink and royal blue Rochas “boutonnieres” that adorned his smoking jacket’s lapel.

Only Hamish Bowles could carry this look with such savoir faire.

Buy a Brooks Brothers tie, some neon paint, have a splatter party and get the Hamish look today.
