Damien Hirst: The Complete Spot Paintings Opens at Gagosian Galleries Worldwide

New Yorkers head to Gagosian Gallery’s 555 24th Street and 522 21st Street locations last night for the first views of Damien Hirst’s spot paintings. Being shown at 11 Gagosian galleries around the world, New York has 115 paintings on view. Seventy-four are being shown at the Madison Avenue location making it the gallery with the largest quantity, while the West 21st Street branch boasts the largest spot painting, measuring ?118 by 478 in. (56,404 sq. in.).


Hirst has laid out a “Spot Challenge,” offering anyone who manages to visit all of the shows globally a personalized Spot print. “I remember the golden tickets in Willy Wonka, maybe it’s a bit like that,” he told the New York Times.
