Dance & Fashion Exhibit Opens At The Museum At FIT

Monday, September 15, 2014

On Friday, September 12, The Museum at FIT celebrated the opening of its latest exhibition Dance & Fashion. Curated by FIT’s “high-heeled historian,” Dr. Valerie Steele, Dance & Fashion explores the relationship between the two artforms and features over 100 dance costumes and dance inspired fashions, from the era of the Romantic ballet – present.

On display, point shoes worn by the famous ballerina Anna Pavlova and Margot Fonteyn are paired alongside high-fashion dance-inspired stilettos by Christian Louboutin. As well as leotards worn by Mikhail Baryshnikov, Rudolf Nureyev and Fanny Elssler. True to FIT-form, this exhibit is a sight to behold. It will remain open until January 3, 2015.

In attendance on Friday: Designer to the stars Victor de Souza, legendary photographer Bill Cunningham, American philanthropist Jean Shafiroff, art’s patron Yaz Hernandez, and Tony Award-winning Broadway actor Tommy Tune.
