Friends and fans gathered on Monday, March 16, at the Gilded Lily to toast Robin Givhan and the release of her new book “The Battle of Versailles: The Night American Fashion Stumbled into the Spotlight and Made History.” In her book, the Pulitzer award-winning journalist describes a 1973 charity fashion show where five American designers showed their work against five French designers, considered the best in the world, and against all odds impressed the audience and marked the path for future American design.

The event was hosted by David Kuhn and Thelma Golden and gathered an exclusive group of fashion connoisseurs including: Bethann Hardison, a Battle of Versailles Model; Stephen Burrows, designer; Pat Cleveland, a former model; Hamish Bowles, the European editor-at-large for Vogue; Bill Cunningham, the New York Times fashion photographer; Roxanne Lowit, the fashion and celebrity photographer; Peggy Siegal, the PR maven; David Hershkovits; Julia Gilhart, a fashion consultant and board member at Mulberry and Parsons School for Design; Bonnie Morrison; and Reed Krakoff, the famed designer.
