Dine Out For Heroes, 2017

Tuesday, November 7, 2017

The Bob Woodruff Foundation (BWF) presents it’s fourth annual Dine Out For Heroes this Veteran’s Day, Saturday November 11. In support of impacted service members and their families, a number of New York City restaurants have agreed to donate one dollar per guest on Veteran’s Day.

Restaurants participating in this year include The Lambs Club, Butter, Le Sirena, Beauty and Essex, Michael Jordan’s The Steakhouse N.Y.C., Bagatelle and Nobu.

The BWF was founded in 2006 after reporter Bob Woodruff was hit by a roadside bomb while covering the war in Iraq. Woodruff returned to ABC News 13 months later in 2007. The Foundation has since found that that of the approximately 2.8 million U.S. service members who have been deployed since September 11, 2001 90 percent of those wounded in combat are surviving their injuries, 340,000 have sustained a Traumatic Brain Injury and one in five suffers from invisible wounds like Post Traumatic Stress.

But through focus areas including rehabilitation and recovery, education and employment, and quality of life The BWF works to help service members and their families’ transition back into civilian life.

To date, through events such as Dine Out For Heroes, The Bob Woodruff Foundation has raised and invested more that $42 million to “Find, Fund and Shape™” programs that have empowered impacted veterans, service members and their families’. They have awarded over 370 grants, and have reached 2.5 million veterans and families across the U.S.

ABC’s Bob Woodruff, Penny Glazier of The Glazier Group, the founder of Caroline’s Comedy Club, Caroline Hirsch and chef Alex Guarnaschelli are at the helm of this year’s industry-wide movement. To further support the cause Alex Guarnaschelli has formed a culinary council consisting of celebrity chefs Geoffrey Zakarian, Mario Batali, Rocco DiSpirito, Tony Fortuna and Chris Santos.
