It was the end of an era at Richard Johnson’s farewell party at – where else – the Four Seasons Grill Room. The power brokers he helped make (and occasionally break) all turned up to bid him adieu. From  Mayor Bloomberg and Police Commissioner Ray Kelly to Curtis Sliwa and a curvier Melania and Donald Trump. If their names ever graced the Post’s front pages, then they were there. NY Post editor Col Allan presented Johnson with a customized Page Six surfboard, saying that in LA, “they have real sharks.”

Among those raising their glasses to the former boy-wonder who began his tenure in 1978 in the days of hot type were Martha Stewart, Katie Couric, Alina Cho, Anne Hearst and Jay McInerney; newly engaged and radiant Gigi Stone, power lawyer Jerry Lefcourt, a slew of flaks including Ken Sunshine, Taki, Chuck Pfeiffer, Haley and Jason Binn, Euan Rellie, Eric Villency, Anne Hearst and Jay McInerney, David Richenthal, Linda Fargo, Desiree Gruber, Pamela Gross and Jimmy Finkelstein.

As partiers got down to DJ Sky Nellor’s seventies mixes, more than a few complained of what would happen to Page Six. Editor Allan told the room not to worry – that Emily Smith’s English rose appearance belied her gossip reporter’s mien. Indeed, Smith was the woman of the hour, as folks lined up to say goodbye to Richard and a hearty welcome to her.
