East Side Eats Out

Tuesday, December 10, 2013

The week before Thanksgiving, a group of about 70 philanthropic foodies participated in some gastronomic delights of their own – all while raising nearly $25,000 for the Stanley Isaacs Center Meals on Wheels. For this year’s “East Side Eats Out,” Isaacs board members Ed and Pat Falkenberg once again welcomed friends and supporters old and new to their Sutton Place home for a champagne toast courtesy of Nicholas Feuillatte.

After that, the group split up into mini-dinner parties set up in one of several participating restaurants: Betony, Harry Cipriani, Jean George at the Mark, Le Cirque, Red Rooster Harlem, and Crown, where AVENUEinsider dined. While we can’t speak for the other dining establishments, Crown was quite the lively gathering. In the absence of Board Chair Chris Mahan – who was called away on business – his wife Merrill hosted a table of all girlfriends, perched at a long table in the center of the dining room.  A chatty group, we were – discussing everything from Art Basel to holiday plans to movie awards season and, of course, the charity we were all supporting that evening. To that end, Merrill gave a toast, thanking all of her guests for supporting a charity dear to her heart, and for helping provide meals to those not as fortunate this season – and to keep those people in our hearts and thoughts always.
