It’s officially begun! The crazy, hectic, can’t-get-enough-of-it madness of fashion week kicked off yesterday at an exclusive luncheon hosted by FIT, honoring the iconic Valentino Garavani. Anna Wintour, Diane von Furstenberg, Nina Garcia and any fashion heavy weight that could afford to pull themselves away from the studio were on hand to celebrate over a delicious lunch and day-time bevies. Friend and fellow designer Karl Lagerfeld sent his well-wishes in a touching letter that chronicled the pairs journey from assisting in Paris to running the fashion world. “I think few people worked as hard as he did to achieve his dreams and his vision of life. He wanted to dress the most beautiful and most elegant women in the world—-and he dressed them all.”

Avenue favorite Daphne Guinness, sporting her signature alien-like hairstyle led the cue of sartorially inclined socialites, with Michelle Harper, Zani Gugelman and Ivanka Trump donning their most stylist party dresses in honor of the occasion. Considering the crowd yesterday, this fashion week is going to be a busy one filled with glamour, iconic fashion and celebrity spottings galore. Don’t let the rain get you down! Fashion’s Night Out is tonight, and the Avenue Insider expects you all to attend!
