Fashion’s ascendant stars proved their mettle on April 25th at the 114th annual Pratt Institute Senior Fashion Show. A sold-out audience bore witness to the runway debut of seventeen graduating seniors’ final thesis collections; a crowd which contained such luminaries as Fern Mallis, Alina Cho, Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, Hal Rubinstein, Ralph Pucci and Yeohlee Tang.

For every futuristic, ultra-conceptualized design, there were more wearable and romantic silhouettes; the aesthetic range chronicled the variety of response from young designers to the current fashion landscape, as well as forecasting its future.

Lauded fashion designer Thom Brown received the 2013 Pratt Fashion Visionary Award from Vogue’s own International Editor-at-Large Hamish Bowles. So chosen for his impeccable craftsmanship and high-concept designs, Brown was celebrated immediately after the runway show with a cocktail reception at The Top of the Standard.

Madeline Gruen won the Liz Clairborne Award (which at $25 000 is not to be sniffed at) for her extraordinary formalwear collection. Gruen exhibited flawless tailoring, imaginative patterning and a truly distinct voice.
