Jay McInerney’s Marcatunes Debut at Hakkasan

Wednesday, February 7, 2018

Snug Florida snowbirds will be less smug when they hear about Jay McInerney’s fab dinner at Hakkasan, in cold but interesting New York.

Long a fan of Hakkasan in London’s Mayfair, McInerney was intrigued when they approached him to create the ultimate New York fortunes for Chinese New Year. His witty and often painfully prophetic fortunes where placed inside of ‘Marcartunes’—a combo classic New York black and white cookie/macaron/fortune cookie, stamped with red chocolate to symbolize luck and prosperity in the New Year. Diners will receive complimentary Marcatunes throughout the month of February.

Jay’s fortunes include:

If at first you don’t succeed, try Botox.

Your nanny is about to leave you for a family that lives at 740 Park.

Your Uber pool will arrive with models as passengers. You will end up going where they go.

The Sartorialist will catch you on the street, looking your very best.

You will miss your next flight from LaGuardia due to construction.

Your neighborhood coffee shop will close and a Rite Aid will take its place.

Your money manger will be arrested for his involvement in a Ponzi scheme.

Derek Blasberg will like your next Instagram post.

Green juice will turn out to cause weight gain.

Before guests enjoyed the cookies, eight sumptuous courses were served to a group, for whom good fortune has reigned. The list included Donna Tartt, whose eagerly awaited film version of The Goldfinch is currently being filmed with Nicole Kidman and Ansel Elgort; Ken Auletta, whose newest book, Frenemies: The Epic Disruption of the Ad Business (and Everything Else) comes out in June; artists Richard Phillips, Steve Miller and Steven Rockefeller, whose video/painting collaboration with Cao Jun just opened at Boston College’s McMullen Museum of Art; commentator Robert Zimmerman, minutes after a Fox appearance; Pierre Legrange , whose Huntsman bespoke suits hung gracefully on several guests’ shoulders; and Ebs Burnough; Nicole Miller (about to show at Fashion Week); Patricia Hearst (off to a dog show with her Champion French bulldog); Tuggy; Jamie Figg, Debbie and John Loeffler, Jeanine Pepler; and Prince Dimitri, whose cufflinks and earrings were worn several lucky ladies and gents.

My fortune read ‘Be inspired by your seatmates.’
