A Classic Sunday

The Hamptons summer season may be drawing to a close, but the party’s not over yet! On Sunday, the Summer’s last—some say best—event, the Hampton Classic, opened with pomp and circumstance (and a few famous faces too). America’s Got Talent semi-finalist Christian Guardino of Patchogue sang the National Anthem to an astonished audience. “Growing up on Long Island, I’ve always heard that the Classic is something special and being here, it’s just so beautiful. Today is an unbelievable experience for me,” said the golden-throated lad.

Although the day featured some of the Classic’s youngest competitors, the talented little riders were just as exciting to watch as any of the grown-ups later in the week . Brynn Collins, Isla Mnuchin, Sienna Feldman and Victoria Roman, won the two to four-year-old group, and Ava Patino, Tatum Scharf, Ava Cederholm, Sam Boley and Vivienne Akrzewski won the five to seven-year-old group.

Of course, there were some high-stakes thrills on Sunday too. As always, the highlight was the $30,000 Board’s Head Jumper Challenge presented by Dan’s Papers, won by Amanda Derbyshire and her Holsteiner mare Lady Maria BH. The gruesome twosome completed the challenge in an astounding 58.467 seconds. The day’s other highlight was the $10,000 Marders Hunter Derby, won by Laura Bowery and Royal Expectation.

The Classic may have turned 42 this year, but there’s no midlife crisis here. With over 200 classes in six rings, a Boutique Garden with exciting shopping options and a wide selection of dining options, the 60-acre showground is as exciting as ever.

The Hamptons Classic runs until September 3rd. Catch it while you still can.
