Last week, International Supermodel and all around glamour queen Iman hosted an awards dinner and auction for the fantastic, New York based Gordon Parks Foundation. This organization works towards preserving famed artist Gordon Parks‘ amazing cultural time-capsule of an art collection, as well as propelling the education of young people in the arts.

The dinner last Wednesday honored 5 individuals who “embody [Parks’] artistic passion and vision…in the fields of film, fashion, media and art.” This years event celebrated the work of Arianna Huffington, Karl Lagerfeld, Spike Lee, Sir Ken Robinson and Stephanie Winston Wolkoff. The evening kicked off at Gotham Hall with a dinner, awards ceremony, and auction of works by the likes of Parks himself, Richard Gere, Andy Warhol and many more. All of this was capped off by an awe-inspiring performance by the incomparable Rufus Wainwright, who sang his own “Art Teacher”, a personal favorite among his many beautiful ballads.

Before heading off to the after-party at Avenue Nightclub, guests mingled amongst the crowd, while the Blue Man Group presented a special performance for the occasion. It was an eclectic and exciting evening, celebrating the life and work of a man who broke down barriers in the art world, and an organization which encourages today’s artists to do just the same.
