Jean Shafiroff and Patrick McMullan celebrate “Pit Bulls as Pets”

Monday, May 12, 2014

Last Friday, Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation Chairwoman and Honorary Board Member Jean Shafiroff opened up her home for cocktails to honor “Pit Bulls as Pets,” to raise awareness for the adoption of said animals for the Foundation. The intimate fete was co-hosted by Honorary Board Member Patrick McMullan, while Bella, the Shafiroff family’s tan and white pit bull, greeted guests and proved that with love and care, this breed can make wonderful, loving pets. As Shafiroff herself explained later on in the evening, after World War II, a stigma was attached to breeds the likes of german shepherds, dobermans, and pit bulls. But thankfully, she continued, those stereotypes are eroding, and in fact it was Jean’s daughter, Elizabeth, who got involved with rescuing pit bulls.

Notable guests included tennis star Monica Seles, model Morgan O’Connor, William and Liliana Cavendish, author Michael Gross, Chiu Ti Jansen, Ike Ude, Geoffrey Bradfield, Hunt Slonem, Flo Anthony, Lucia Hwong Gordon, Julianne Michelle, Cole Rumbough, and Patricia Gray, Executive Director of the Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation. The kick-off party was held in anticipation of the charity’s 5th Annual Gala, which will take place on July 19, 2014, in Southampton in honor of Georgina Bloomberg.
