On December 5, W Hotels celebrated another in the series of What She Said power talks at W New York Times Square with iconic fashionistas Rachel Zoe and Jenna Lyons.
Rachel Zoe is a designer, editor, author, stylist and entrepreneur, and the brains behind the fashion and lifestyle website The Zoe Report. Jenna Lyons is the president and creative director of J. Crew. The panel was moderated by fashion consultant and luxury retail pioneer, Sarah Easley, co-founder of Kirna Zabete.
The night was filled with insight from the dynamic fashion duo as Easley asked each about their most memorable fashion hits and misses. Zoe and Lyons got real about their greatest successes, mistakes made (with Lyons adding that one of her biggest mistakes came from when she didn’t follow her gut and, rather, tried to make sure her team “liked her”) and their innate desire to make women feel beautiful.
Lyons shared that "the biggest mistakes are the one you don't learn from" and "if you're not doing it for fun, don't do it."
Zoe spoke about her inspirations, how her relationship with husband and business partner Rodger Berman is all about support; and how she identifies most with the “effortlessness of the ’70s.” She noted how clothing has the power to transform and give confidence to some of the most beautiful women in the world. She shared an anecdote about dressing someone for the Academy Awards a few years ago who said as she left, “I don’t even care if I win tonight, Rachel, because I already know I look the best.” She did, however, end up winning.
Lyons and Zoe dressed for the evening with the other in mind—Lyons sporting a long skirt and sequin top; and Zoe sporting her take on a suit.
What She Said is a global speaker series launched last year featuring inspiring women from the worlds of fashion, music, design and tech. The evening was held to celebrate W Hotels Style Lab, a new holiday concept store located at W Times Square featuring fabulous finds to give and to get. Curated by Sarah Easley, W Hotels Style Lab is open to the public through December 18 and features items from 12 ready-to-wear, accessory, beauty and lifestyle brands.
