Signing the Dotted Wine

Tuesday, October 3, 2017

Rotisserie Georgette, Georgette Farkas’s cultishly adored French joint on the Upper East Side, has long been about more than the food. With a clientele that includes luminaries like Gay Talese and Tom Wolfe, the restaurant has a literary pedigree that few others can match. So it’s no surprise that Farkas decided to capitalize on that reputation with “Author! Author!” an exciting series of literary lunches every Saturday. “It started a year ago,” she said. “There are so many authors who dine here that we decided to start inviting them.” (full disclosure: AVENUE EIC Michael Gross was one of them.)

The second annual series begins on October 28th, bringing with it new books, new authors, and a new theme: wine. “The only thing that’s better than good food is good food with good wine,” Farkas told AVENUE, “so we decided to host a series of books on wine.”

Some of the authors and titles booked for the first two lunches are Peter Hellman (In Vino Duplicitas), Mark Oldman (How to Drink Like a Billionaire), and Bianca Bosker (Cork Dork). Each lunch will feature a three-course menu paired with Champagne Piper Heissieck.

In today’s high-paced, high-tech world, Farkas acknowledges that people don’t read as much as they once did. But she holds out hope that the series will remain a success.

“We’re a very old fashioned kind of place, and I think we attract the sort of people who still like to crack open a nice hardcover book,” she said. “Good books, like good wine, ages well.”

“Author! Author!” begins on Saturday, October 28. More information can be found here.
