It’s no secret that we’re fans of Manolo Blahnik. In our September issue, we looked back on some very iconic moments through the shoe and accessory designer’s career, and prepared for the excitement around his honor for FIT’s 2015 Couture Council Award for Artistry of Fashion.

On Wednesday, September 9, a benefit luncheon was held at the David H. Koch Theatre at Lincoln Center, to toast to Blahnik’s acceptance of the prestigious award. The annual event—also known as the unofficial kickoff of fall Fashion Week in New York—gathered fashion luminaries together to celebrate the footwear legend’s forty-plus years of achievements and design excellence.

Notable attendees including Dr. Valerie Steele (Director and Chief Curator of The Museum at FIT) and Dr. Joyce F. Brown (President of FIT) made speeches in honor of Blahnik, who expressed a heartfelt thank you.

The event raised more than $1 million for the Museum of FIT. Guests included Anna Wintour, Simon Doonan, Glenda Bailey, Carolina Herrera, Sharon Bush, John Pomerantz, Fern Mallis, Norah Lawlor, Rosemary Ponzo, Lisa Hoenshell, Ron Fiamma, Kathy Reilly, Ralph Rucci, Linda Fargo, Hilaria and Alec Baldwin, Stefano Tonchi, Petra Nemcova, Patricia Shaw, Hunt Slonem, Monique Lhuillier, Liz Peek, Amy Fine Collins and Dr. Annette Rickel.
