MET Stars Unwind at The Crown

Wednesday, May 9, 2012

Arguably there is no greater red carpet extravaganza then the MET Costume Institute Gala, complete with breathless coverage from essentially every press outlet in creation. However, by the time the after-parties roll around, the atmosphere is considerably more relaxed. Most stars arrive sans handlers, the flashbulbs (at least inside) are kept to a minimum, and more than a few attendees change into more casual, party-friendly attire.

Such was certainly the case at The Crown’s second annual post-celebration – one of the three main after parties –  this time around sponsored by Perrier Jouet. Coco Rocha, Jessica Stam, Debra Messing, Ginnifer Goodwin, Jamie Tisch, Karolina Kurkova, Marina Rust, and Rachel Zoe were just some of the bold-faced names who stopped by for a glass or two of champers – and quite a few, like Messing and Linda Wells, stayed for a while and decamped to one of the restaurant’s many banquettes.

DJ Cassidy, a veteran of The MET post-party circuit, compared the late-night festivities to a “house party.” Spinning for the second year in a row at The Crown, he told AVENUEinsider: “As over the top as the gala is, here, you get all of these fabulous people in your living room. And that’s why it’s one of my favorite parties to do.”

Sometimes, the quarters in the living room get a bit too close. “Two years ago at The Mark, Oprah, Naomi, Diddy, Pharrell, Usher, Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake were all on a couch behind me. But the area was so tight that some of them literally had to hold onto my shoulder not to fall down,” he laughed.

Next up for the indefatigable DJ? A trip to LA to shoot the Gap Kids campaign starring his newest mentee, 8 year old DJ Fulano.  The rising star also has a rap album (produced by Cassidy) in the works.  Can a MET gig be far off?
