Drexler with Amy Astley

Mickey Drexler is the current chairman and CEO of J.Crew Group and the former CEO of Gap Inc. Drexler expanded GAP into an iconic part of 90’s pop culture by taking the company from a private brand merchandise which epitomized the relaxed American casual look. Since 1999, Drexler has been a director at Apple Inc., and J. Crew is just one of the successful turnarounds by the man that Andy Spade calls the “Steve Jobs of retail.” Together with Executive Creative Director Jenna Lyons, Drexler has taken the one-time sleepy catalogue brand from preppy to upscale, and seen profits rise every year since 2006. It hasn’t hurt that the Obamas and Oprah are fans. Latest moves of the “retail therapist” include partnering with Net-a-Porter, a luxury online e-tailer. Drexler is a true New Yorker: he attended Bronx High School of Science, studied at City College of New York and went onto the University of Buffalo before receiving an M.B.A. from Boston University.
