Santa’s helpers this year were none other than The Society of Memorial Sloan Kettering committee members, who hosted receptions in 75 participating Madison Avenue stores at the 32nd Annual Miracle on Madison on December 1. A favorite New York City holiday shopping tradition, the one day shopping bonanza benefited The MSK Cancer Center Pediatric Programs. Participating stores donated 20% of sales, raising a minimum of $150,000 every year.

The Society of MSK is a volunteer led organization that works to ensure the wellbeing of patients, raise funds for cancer research and treatment, and provide public education on the prevention, early detection, and treatment of cancer. Miracle on Madison has been benefiting children in need for 32 years, and for the past seven years has partnered with The Society of MSK.

An MSK “blue” ribbon cutting kicked-off the festivities at Veronica Beard. Santa made a personal appearance to delight the children, as did the beloved MSK Caring Canine therapy dogs. The 2018 Miracle Chairman, Jamee Gregory, President of The Society of Memorial Sloan Kettering, lead the 29-block parade serenaded by carolers to visit the stores and shop with her MSK Committee Hosts Melanie Holland, Gretchen Gunlocke Fenton, Webb Egerton, Jennifer Creel, Stephanie Loeffler, Lucinda May, Erin O’Connor, Caroline Los Arcos and Alden King, Elizabeth Singer. Also on the Miracle gift crawl were Shelly Carr, Elizabeth Fuller, Karen May and Gina Tomenson.

Sweet treats and bubbly greeted shoppers in stores along Madison Avenue between 57th and 86th Streets with special and bespoke luxurious gift ideas. At Tory Burch one could customize a new handbag with a hand painted motif by Korean illustrator Mison Kim. It was one-stop shopping at Kate Spade who made it simple by creating gift boxes for “teacher,” “nanny”, “sweet sixteen niece”, ”perfect hostess” and even the dog. And speaking of dogs, the MSK Caring Canines were clearly the stars, along with the fashionably attired Madison Avenue pooches.

Miracle on Madison is organized by the Madison Avenue Business Improvement District (BID). AVENUE was the media sponsor.
